Countdown to a New World

Personally, 2011 started off for me with a 360-degree view of a horizon line exploding with fireworks as we welcomed in the new year with corks popping and toasts on a rooftop.  Katy Perry’s “Fireworks” was playing, and it became my–and I suspect many people’s–unofficial theme song for ushering in 2012. And, boy, what a year 2011 was.  Unpredictable, exhilarating, shocking, euphoric, thrilling, chaotic…in a word, explosive.  If there was ever a year that defied expectations, 2011 was it, and it kept us all on our toes with its, sometimes, short fuse.  2011 was the year when we were...

The Little Red Dress

For the holiday celebrations, what says “festive” more than a little red dress? Sexy, vampy, fun, flirty…the little red dress always makes a statement, and it isn’t “I’m a wallflower”. Fellow designers Louis Claparrols, Sassa Jimenez and myself were invited to redesign the little red dress and give it our own personal touch in collaboration with beauty company Avon.  My dress designs focused on mixing soft shapes with strong color, and creating a look that was bold but not brazen.  These designs were created for the launch of Avon’s latest bold, passionate fragrance aptly named “The Little Red Dress” (which, by the way, smells delicious!  The fruity, berry notes are yummy 🙂  The “Little Red Dress” is exclusively available through Avon Representatives or check out www.avon.com.ph.). *On a side note, this is actually the third time that I’ve worked with Avon since I started designing, beginning with a dress design for their “Little Black Dress ” perfume that I did years ago, and last year as one of their ‘beauty muses’ for their Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact lipstick.  Needless to say, they are one of my favorite companies to collaborate with–truly the company for women 🙂 Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

All We Need is Love

Merry Christmas!  Today is Christmas day, and beyond our religious affiliations, family ties and bonds of friendship, the greatest gift we have this season is to remember that we are intrinsically linked together as part of the great family of humanity.  So this season, and well beyond it, I would like to share this inexhaustible supply of love and gift each and everyone of you with it.  Thank you for sharing this little spot in cyberspace with me for the better part of 2011–without realizing it, your visiting my blog and coming along on my little, daily adventures has connected us in ways that were unimaginable just a few years back. So as we all celebrate Christmas day and open the last of our presents, may we still open our arms and hearts wide to receive the greatest gift there is.  Love to you all, and happy holidays! 🙂 (*Image from Google images)   Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

Coming Full Circle

In spite of the latest calamity that has hit our country, there will always be a reason to get together and gather with friends in the Philippines.  As the cliché goes, sharing our problems make them lighter, and sharing our triumphs make them sweeter (or something to that effect…I’m paraphrasing :-p). Last Saturday I reunited with my past, getting together with some of my favorite advertising people from my life-avant-fashion at the home of former Ogilvy ECD, David Guerrero.  This Ogilvy reunion was for a group that was particularly memorable, particularly inseparable and particularly crazy, so while many of us have moved on to different things since then (I was there from ’97-’99), we always find ourselves still keeping in touch and cheering each other on in our new endeavors.  Now what could be a better reason to celebrate than that? (Although we found out that we had another reason to celebrate, since our host, BBDO-Guerrero’s David Guerrero, shared with us that they had just been awarded the Department of Tourism’s latest advertising campaign.  Talk about coming full circle!  Personally, I couldn’t be more thrilled, now that two of the most brilliant marketing/advertising minds are at the helm of branding our country :-)).  Cheers to that! Beautiful table setting at the home of our hosts, Adobo magazine’s Angel Guerrero & BBDO-Guerrero’s David Guerrero With former group-mates Manny del Rosario...

The Gift of Giving

This week, the Philippines is simultaneously celebrating the Christmas season while mourning the hundreds of victims of typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City.  I think the gift of true giving has been handed to all of us, that we may open not just our wallets but our hearts, and work together to care for each other. *The beautiful design below was created by Lizza Guttierez 🙂 Most of us already have more than we need, so instead of buying useless gifts that inadvertently get “recycled”, we could just make a gift donation to help those who really need, and would greatly appreciate, anything we have to offer.  All over facebook, twitter and other social media, people are sharing ways in which we can all help the victims of Sendong.  I’ve compiled what I found from my personal contacts.  Please feel free to repost this: -Donations through the RED CROSS (www.redcross.org.ph/donatenow) SMS Text RED<space>AMOUNT to 2899 (Globe) or 4143 (Smart) G-Cash Text DONATE<space>AMOUNT<space>4-digit M-PIN<space>REDCROSS to 2882 You can donate the following denominations: Globe: 5, 25, 100, 300, 500 or 1000 Smart: 10, 25, 50, 100, 300, 500 or 1000 -Donations through LBC (www.lbcexpress.com) Drop off your donations at any LBC branch nationwide.  To locate the nearest branch, call the LBC hotline (632) 8585-999.  LBC will deliver the goods for free to the hardest hit cities and provinces....
