Inspirational Photo of the Day

Handmade ceramic ware and vintage china are some of my favorite things to use, as well as to have around the house or drawing room as temporary ‘still life’ arrangements. Mixing them with modern china is also interesting, much like mixing in vintage pieces with modern clothes–I feel it adds a certain depth to a table setting (as it does to an outfit). My favorites are the china I inherited from my grandmother and grandaunt because their designs are no longer in production (although the tea set I got from our artist-neighbor Tensie Bello is also one-of-a-kind). The pieces here–vintage china on top, artist-sculpted on the bottom–are pretty, but minimalist in design, which is also a great look for clothes! Baroque ‘n Roll Filipiniana

It’s Friday again! In honor of the recent resurgence of 80’s glam rock (thanks in no small part to “Rock of Ages”), here’s a sketch I did for fun a while back that put a little ‘baroque ‘n roll’ into the classic Barong Tagalog and black pants combination. It’s a design that I never actually executed, but seeing it again makes me think it could be interesting to do! For what occasion could it be worn? Worn separately, the top would be elegant enough to wear with a long, black skirt to a wedding, and the pants would be...

Work in Progress

It’s the middle of the week, in the middle of the month, in (roughly) the middle of the year and so far I’ve been quite happy with the ‘work-life’ balance I seem to have finally stumbled on. Less mindless multi-tasking and useless busy-ness has left me with more time to do the things I really enjoy, like experimenting with designs, doing some writing, working on things at home, traveling with friends, and of course, spending time with family. Keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts a little longer! Even work has become more pleasant, and I find myself enjoying...

Fashion Tips: Instant Ribbon-Tied Shirt

It was a gloomy day yesterday, I had a lot of running about to do, a fitting with a client at the end of the day, and nothing to wear. What to do…what to do? Remember that black satin ribbon I used to turn a cotton, pinstriped shirt into an instant peplum? Well, I used it again to turn a plain, champagne-colored silk shirt into a pretty ribbon-tied shirt. Instant fashion emergency solution…whew! 🙂 While most important occasions give us ample time to have clothes custom-designed and specially fitted, in our daily lives there are times when we all...

Garden Variety Blooms

Rain showers notwithstanding, brides are all abloom! Lovely bride-to-be Kelly Misa is looking radiantly fresh in light and airy gowns just perfect for lush, garden settings. Elegant without being overdone! I love how wonderful stylist Guada Reyes gave a light-as-air-with-a-hint-of-vintage touch to the whole shoot for last month’s bridal issue of Style Weekend (as seen here from some of Guada’s behind-the-scenes photos from her blog, www.toeyefor.wordpress.com)…so beautifully, effortlessly chic 🙂 (Blush gown by Tippi Ocampo with a bodice of layered strips of blush lace and silk chiffon skirt, veil with crystals by Danilo Franco) Photographer: Shaira Luna Fashion Stylist:...
