All little girls love playing dress up, but even though I adored pretty dresses, one of my favorite things to do since I was around 7 or 8 years old was to dress like a boy from time to time–I mean, who doesn’t love the ease of denim overalls??? In college (the photo above), I would mix dressing up in flirty mini skirts with days when I went to school in brogues, a vest and a tie. These days I love designing, creating, and celebrating all things feminine, but it’s still fun to inject a bit of the masculine every so often. One of my favorite places to steal ideas from (okay, well, more than just ideas!) is my husband’s closet. Mixing and matching his ‘n hers elements is a great way to more than double your closet’s capacity.

Try wearing his pinstriped, button-down shirt with an ultra-slim skirt in heavy lace, for example. Or take his favorite rock t-shirt, roll up the sleeves, and pair it with your own satin, tuxedo pants. Or slip on a sheer, chiffon shirt dress accessorized with his cuff links and tie clip (and maybe even his tie!). The options are endless, and the best part is, you don’t have to spend a thing! 😉

What’s your favorite boy-meets-girl look?
