Dalí inspired Lancel | Vogue

The Persistence of Memory, Salvador Dalí, 1931 Dreamscapes are amazing places where nothing is as it seems and where anything is possible, which is why it’s a place often visited by surrealists like Salvador Dalí.  It’s this strange and absurd perspective that has always fascinated me, the questioning of the world as we know it, and which is the main reason why I’m such a fan of surrealism.  I also remember falling madly in lust with a Salvador Dalí Softwatch years ago–way before Ito and I got hitched–and which he so thoughtfully gifted me with for my birthday that year (I still use it to this day). It didn’t matter to me that it was always a little difficult to tell the precise time because of its ‘melted’ shape–time is always flexible from a Dalí point of view anyway ;)–because it never failed to put a smile on my face. I also went to see a Dalí exhibit in Paris a few years ago…this sculpture of a clock melting from a clothes hanger was one of my favorite pieces. Dalí inspire Lancel | Vogue Today I came across this Dalí inspired, monogrammed leather bag by French fashion house Lancel that I saw on the Paris Vogue site.  It has bicycle chain straps and Dalí’s ‘secret love alphabet’ monogrammed on it.  I think it looks so cool–a little surreal, a little...

Life in the Tropics

Kicking back and relaxing on a Sunday reminds me of why I’m grateful to be living in a ‘land of endless summers’. Summer is my absolute favorite season of the year, so it’s just as well that I was born in the Philippines where the ‘coldest’ months of the year–beginning in September & extending til February–are also the best times to hit the beach.  Being a fashion designer, much of what I do is informed by our balmy (oftentimes extremely humid) climate, our incurable penchant for parties, celebrations and fiestas of every kind, and our laid-back, sometimes infuriatingly relaxed, devil-may-care attitude. But, hey, who’s complaining? White sand, friendly fish and turquoise waters in Palawan Linen towels & woven rags on a clothesline inspired this past collection Random recycled wood makes an interesting fence in Tagaytay This past collection was inspired by baskets, blue waters and sunsets Thatched nipa, native weaves and bright bougainvillea in Cebu Blue skies, bleached wood and blazing sunshine in Boracay Past collection inspired by a fisherman’s catch with mother-of-pearl Seashells & sea urchins inspired this past collection Local beach batiks and mats inspired this past collection The famous final rays of a red hot Manila sunset Local dog enjoying a roll in the powdery sands of Boracay *Photos by Ito Ocampo & runway photos by Ian Ong (ClicktheCity) Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend...

Special Delivery!

On most Fridays, Ito and I meet friends for dinner and late-night drinks or maybe we wind down with family and catch a movie.  But last night there was heavy rain, heavy traffic AND it was a payday, so we skipped heading out after work and decided to just stay home and relax.  And wouldn’t you know it, it turned out to be a really good thing because we had a surprise delivery last night!  A 32″ Samsung LCD Series 4 HDMI TV (Hi-definition multi-media interface–I’m still reading up on what that means exactly)  As you can imagine, Ito wasted no time in setting it up and tinkering with it (endless wires be damned!), so our relaxing Friday evening turned into setting-up-the-TV-and-channel-surfing-all-night-long.  The Samsung LCD TV’s design is very sleek and I love how saturated the image colors are, plus there’s a connect/share port so we can use it for viewing Ito’s pics.  Yay! The perfect thing about it is that since we’re fixing up our house, we can turn our spare room into a guest room/TV room.  I’m already planning to look around for an antique silver frame to put the TV in if we mount it on the wall.  (Can’t wait to watch “Game of Thrones” all over again, LOL!) A few months ago, I was invited to be one of Samsung’s brand ambassadors for its new...

Styling Up a Storm

The weather these days has been a challenge, provoking our every fashion choice with its fickle nature.  One minute the sun is blazing, the next, torrential rain is pouring from the sky.  Between deciding on the right shoes to wear (I was once caught in the rain during a wedding, wearing satin designer stilletos.  I had to say a tearful good-bye to them forever!), or whether to bring a parka or an umbrella, or how to fix our hair (will it hold up in the the humidity?  Or the rain??), it’s understandable when sometimes we just want to hide under a big, black plastic sheet…or just stay home. But with almost six months of rainy season, it’s better to learn the tricks of looking put-together and staying dry, despite the moody weather. Invest in a stylish umbrella Leave the oversized golf umbrella in your car and the freebie promotional umbrella buried deep in the back of your storage closet–instead, keep an umbrella that works with the style of your clothes.  Think of it like an accessory (match, blend, or contrast with your outfits) and stray away from colors and prints you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing.  A classic black umbrella with a polished wooden handle is a safe choice, or choose one with an eye-catching color or an interesting print. Winter wear wasn’t made for wet weather Please leave...
