Food as Fashion

I came across these amazing images online by fine art photographer Sung Yeonju (represented by Art Merge) who was born, lives, and works in Seoul.  For her exhibit titled “Wearable Foods” in 2010, these are just some of the beautiful dresses she created and constructed from food (that you could easily find in your kitchen) and photographed afterwards.  While neither wearable nor edible, her images & dresses are undoubtedly deliciously desirable.  All I can say is…wow!!!! Inspirational Photos of the Day

It’s exactly 77 days til Christmas eve!  I found myself going into a mild panic thinking about that, even though I love everything about the Christmas season.  This year I wanted to decorate with an underlying Filipino theme but I was inspired by current fashion trends, so I was thinking of decorating using the “Under the Sea” theme (starfish, capiz shells, pearls, driftwood, etc.).  It always bothered me that most Christmas decorations here in our very tropical country were too “Winter Wonderland” looking, so I’m hoping to have some time this year to play with our home decor 🙂 Dried starfish mixed with gold and silver stars Local parols, faux pearl strands, driftwood and capiz shells The countdown to Christmas begins… Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

7,107 Design Inspirations

We’ve started mentoring the finalists for FDCP’s “Weaving the Future” fashion and design competition, and their design entries are all inspired by the fabrics & materials found in any one of our 7,107 islands.  Finals of the competition will be in November, so watch out for that because it’s sure to be super exciting! Without preempting any of their work, I’ve put together my personal inspiration album of many of the amazing sights–and sites–that Ito and I have been lucky enough to have seen while traveling around the Philippines (though there are many more places that we’re looking forward to seeing thanks to the new video just released by the DOT.  View it here 🙂  Pilipinas, Tara Na!).  Sometimes it’s okay to be a foreigner in your own country, if it allows you to see it with new eyes 😉 Thatched roofs, feathery brooms and freshly grilled food in the night market Sutokil in Mactan, Cebu Frothy lace, intricate embroidery and handmade headpieces at the Santacruzan fiesta in Cebu Wrought-iron chandeliers, mother-of-pearl accents, modern colonial Philippine design in Cebu Original art deco buildings and a lovely, well-preserved vintage calesa with brass trim in Malate, Manila Pale, delicate ruffles of handmade, hand rolled dumplings in Chinatown, Binondo, Manila Tomato-red and yellow-gold Chinese lanterns against a centuries old Catholic church in Binondo, Manila Mirror-smooth lagoons, multi-hued skies & nature in full...

Iconic Black Turtleneck

Today Steve Jobs passed away and though he was, by no stretch of the imagination, a fashion icon, Steve Jobs’ singular, most memorable and iconic visual image is of him in his signature black turtleneck.  Clean lines, easy elegance, classic but always modern, the black turtleneck symbolizes much of what we appreciate most about Steve Jobs’ amazing, revolutionary contributions to design, technology, animation and society in general–a sharp, singular vision that was understandable to anyone and that worked for everyone. Inspirational Style Icons of the Day

October is my birth month, and as much as I look forward to tucking another birthday under my belt, I’ve also set myself up for a vanity-challenge of sorts.  Now that I have more than my fair share of ‘silver’ hair, I’ve been thinking of fashionable ways to grow out my skunk stripes.  No more hair-dyeing–yikes!!!  Can I do it?  I know it will take a lot more care and effort than just dyeing my hair dark, but it may be worth a try.  Maybe I’ll start with adding highlights to my hair?  If any of you have any tips for me, please do share them.  I need all the help I can get! 🙂 Anyway, to help me stay motivated, here are some of my inspirational images… Daphne Guinness & her skunk stripes for Harper’s Bazaar Kristen McMenamy & her silver hair shot by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia Meryl Streep & her silver bob in the “Devil Wears Prada” Silver-streaked inspirations at Dior and Chanel Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...
