Inspirational Photo of the Day

A not-by-the-book look–inspiration is everywhere!  Random snapshots of things found around the city that get the creative juices flowing…   I love this wildly graffiti-ed, boldly colored wall in the Collective 🙂  Anyone know who the talented artist behind this is? Design-It-Yourself (Just For Fun)

Over the weekend, tons of people on-line had fun taking the DOT’s newly-launched “It’s More Fun In The Philippines” slogan and making it their own.  That’s the brilliance of this campaign in my opinion, it isn’t just a parade of passively beautiful images with a trying-hard-to-be-catchy slogan, but an open invitation to contribute our own thoughts & experiences as to what makes it more fun in the Philippines…and who could resist joining in the fun? 🙂 These are just some of the D-I-Y DOT ‘ads’ that have been circulating on-line…(in case you want to create your own DOT ‘masterpiece’, the DOT font is “Harabara” that you can download here http://www.dafont.com/harabara.font) or go to http://morefunmaker.com. Enjoy! These were a few that my brother made from his own vacation pics…more from his album here… (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150471402477638.365263.682052637&type=1) This was from fashionista StyleWeeekend EIC, Liza Ilarde (with photo by hubby, Elbert Cuenca)… This was from Fol Rana Jr’s album (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.3033049908914.2156463.1342903816&type=1) And these were the original, run-away hit images from Roland Benzon’s album w/ pics he compiled from various photogs… (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150506686457290.390771.501807289&type=3) (Photo by Mon Corpuz) Even with its perceived shortcomings, it truly is more fun in the Philippines! Manila Bulletin Celebrations

To celebrate my turning a year older last October, Manila Bulletin threw a belated celebration over the holidays at the al fresco dining area of Conways in Shangri-La, Makati.  It was fun catching up with some of my good friends & travel buddies and we had a great night sharing our most recent trips & (mis)adventures with each other.  From bottles of wine, to champagne cocktails, to double shots of Johnny Blue, our glasses were never empty & our stomachs were stuffed with delicious hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Conway’s chef–my favorites were the fresh salmon carpaccio, the chili frogs’...

Dinner at Lulu’s

Over the busy holiday season, Lulu Tan Gan threw a dinner to welcome some friends into her new house in Makati.  One of the classiest designers and most astute businesswomen around, I’ve always looked up to Lulu–but I admired her even more when I got to know her after I began designing.  A past FDCP President, Lulu has always been extremely supportive of all designers, old and new, and is more than generous with sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience. That evening was not a fashion event but a celebration of a new chapter in a new home.  So it was a relaxed, lovely evening catching up with friends & colleagues in the industry, and meeting some new ones, over lots of delicious food and drinks.  Wishing Lulu and her family bountiful blessings and many wonderful years in their new home. Hot Strands: Silver-streaked Hair

In today’s Philippine Star, Y-style (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=765259&publicationSubCategoryId=451) On my last birthday I decided to gift myself with something unusual—silver streaked hair.  So what’s so unusual about that?  In fashion, where it is commonplace to see platinum, pink, blue, or any other wildly colored hair, silver streaks hardly seem out of the ordinary…except when they are naturally your own. I’ve always loved silver hair because it’s a hue that lends itself to a self-possessed demeanor.  From a strictly aesthetic perspective, it’s one of the most modern colors around, and to me, is a shade as cool and interesting as platinum.  But...
