Singapore: Birthday By the Bay

Sorry for not having posted for some time. Last week was spent enjoying some quality time with family and celebrating my brother, John’s, birthday. We decided to head back to Singapore, because although Ito and I had just been there for my birthday last October, it would be my Mom & John’s first time in the Garden City for longer than a stopover. We stayed for 8 days, and surprisingly found ourselves with lots to do playing tourist–from lounging in the cabanas poolside at our hotel, to enjoying “The Art of the Brick” Lego exhibit in the nearby ArtScience...

Inspirational Photo of the Day

Even ordinary work days can be visually inspiring and the past few days, the play of light and shadow has cast a surreal, dreamy effect on random everyday scenes. Sometimes, while waiting for a traffic light to turn green, you can look up and suddenly notice a building seemingly wallpapered in blue sky. At other times, a day’s end is rewarded with a sunset that seems to turn the sky a fiery shade of gold. That’s the beauty about inspiration, it usually comes about when we least expect it 😉 *Photos by Ito Ocampo Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

From the Archives: Fashionable Asia (DOHA Fashion Show) 2006

Today was another fulfilling–but exhausting–day working, while fixing and organizing my workshop, and at the same time clearing out my online files. I came across this video of the ‘Fashionable Asia’ show which I was invited to be a part of six years ago. Six years ago, can you believe, but the production values are still amazing 🙂 I hope you don’t mind my saving it from oblivion and sharing it here again (this clip is the entire portion of the Philippine segment and opened with four of my designs chosen by the show’s curator, renowned Paris fashion historian...

The Spirit of Nature (and Craft)

There’s just something so wonderfully free-spirited, creative and individual about DIY projects that I’ve always loved, just like my friend Candy and (her brand-new-husband) JP’s, highly-personalized, crafty, nature-hugging wedding. What makes DIY projects so memorable, whether it’s planning a wedding or setting up a home, are the one-of-a-kind touches and little idiosyncratic elements that make something–anything–distinctively you. In an age of mass production and global commercialism, it’s wonderful to be able to take part in something special, and to remember the things that make each and every one of us unique and one-of-a-kind 🙂 Specially designing a tea dress...

Inspirational Photo of the Day

A play of light and shadow. Airy & ethereal, this patchwork tulle dress was inspired by filaments with its light, gauzy texture and linked patterns. Designs that breathe and move, and that don’t look heavy and weighed-down, are what I’m drawn to right now. Creating patterns, juxtaposing materials and collaging fabrics are what I’ve always enjoyed doing most, primarily because it’s what fascinates me most about the world–the way that things are seemingly thrown together in a random mix, but reveal themselves to be a beautiful play of interconnectedness.
