Party Animals

From leopard, to tiger, to cheetah, animal prints are such a strong fashion statement and are one of my long-time favorite prints,  maybe because it’s a fun way of unleashing our ‘untamed’ side!  It’s a bold statement and I love using this print on lightweight fabrics like jersey, silk chiffon or even sheer organza to contrast its in-your-face vibe. This holiday season, mixing some animal prints into your wardrobe can add some unexpected flavor, and wearing them in luxe fabrics with beautiful details will keep you looking fabulous, feminine and oh-so feline. Objects of Desire

Leica M7 Hermès edition Ahhh…the power of lust.  That distinctive red Leica dot combined with that lovely Hermès orange–how could anyone, male or female, resist?  The last time Ito and I were in Japan, this was the object that drew me into the Leica store in Ginza and enticed the usually hard-nosed Ito into purchasing his first Leica camera (obviously not this one! LOL).  I think if I won the lottery this may be on my impractical-but-desirable-list! But then again, maybe not, because look what I found while surfing on-line… 🙂 Happy Friday fantasizing!  Hope everyone enjoys their weekend 😉 Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

Comfort Zone

Home, sweet home.  While pushing boundaries and exploring outside one’s comfort zone has long been my battle cry, there are times when being surrounded by all things warm, snuggly and comforting is all that we want…like now that I’m sick.  Today my husband has confined me to bed rest, and has been hydrating me endlessly with glasses of water and juice and cups of my favorite tea.  I slept in all day and now I’m under the sheets, propped up by pillows, blogging.  Confession:  I can’t say I’m not enjoying this (shhhhh…..!). Here are my favorite ways of finding comfort when I’m under the weather: 1.  A cup of hot tea–I like having loose leaf tea, but right now I’m having some Twinings Apple & Cinnamon which smells like Christmas.  Comfort in a cup! 2.  Crisp, freshly laundered cotton sheets (my favorite find at a discount store in the US were these marked down, vanilla-colored, 600-thread count, Egyptian cotton sheets & pillowcases from Spain that are sooo soft). 3.  Steaming hot soup–I love chicken tinola because of the gingery chicken broth, the leafy veggies and the green papaya–yum! 4.  A good book or a good movie (time to whip out my old Audrey Hepburn classics that Ito doesn’t like to watch, LOL!) 5.  Aromatherapy–a nice, relaxing scent like green tea or lavender are my favorites. On my comfort wish-list:...

Learning the Fashion Ropes

Anita Berber photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, Vogue Germany The older we get, the more often we find ourselves in the position of mentoring others and nurturing their growth as I’ve found myself doing lately.  I’ve always fancied myself to be the eternal fashion student because I enjoy trying and learning new things, but sharing our experiences with others is an important part of the cycle of growth and creativity, and in fact, teaching means learning as well.  I think all the best mentors learn as much (if not more) from their students as they teach. Oftentimes, people teach without meaning to, unintentionally sharing with others through their own experiences and even mistakes.  Some of my favorite teachers and mentors over the years have inspired me by simply doing what they did and encouraging me to do the same (so it isn’t always true that those who can do, and those who can’t teach–that cliché does a disservice to many great teachers!). And so we share what we learn, and we learn from what is shared, and the eternal cycle of fashion (and life) goes on…   Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...
