Aboard the Voyager

After the past few days of stormy skies, Monday welcomed us with sunshine, a great way to get back into the work groove after the long weekend and catch up on work for a new collection that I’m doing. And when work was done, nightfall greeted us with a full moon, a cool breeze and a clear sky full of stars–a perfect night to enjoy a party by the bay on board a beautiful, luxury, sailing yacht. The invitation for the John Walker & Sons party said the event was black-tie, so Ito dressed up in a tuxedo and I...

Inspirational Photos of the Day

Andy Warhol’s “15 Minutes Eternal” exhibit turned Ito and me into cat-burglars of sorts, sneaking stolen shots where we weren’t supposed to. But, hopefully, given Andy’s predilection for breaking rules and thumbing his nose at the establishment through his art, he wouldn’t mind too much :-p From his early beginnings as a fashion & advertising illustrator, through his trajectory as a painter, film maker, multi-media artist and all around Factory wizard/Pop icon, Andy Warhol’s work has inspired me greatly because of its insistence on celebrating what most people would consider ordinary. I remember discovering his work as an art student in college and being blown away by his art’s ability to cross boundaries, bridging the common and the extraordinary, the vulgar and the tasteful, the commercial and the high brow. I loved how his work was playful and provocative and found beauty in both the glamorous and the pedestrian. Definitely something I aspire to! 🙂 Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

Arty Party in Singapore

For my birthday, Ito took me on a four-day trip to Singapore for a heaping dose of some of my favorite things–art and food. Being immersed in fashion everyday, it was great not to have to think about clothes too much for a while (but only for a while! ;-))…to just slip on sandals and a dress, put on a backpack and cap, and head off on foot to explore the city’s burgeoning number of museums, galleries, restaurants and food stalls. Fueled by plates of roast duck pizza, Hainanese chicken rice, and of course, spicy chilli crab, and armed with...

Taste of St. Tropez

We just got back from a quick, unexpected get-away to Singapore over the past few days for my birthday (just going through everyone’s greetings now, thank you, thank you!) Sorry for not replying yet, I was unplugged most of the time and took a short break from the virtual world to walk around, explore and enjoy the real world. But now I’m back, and back online as well, LOL! Right before our trip, we had a Friday get-away of another kind as we were invited to enjoy a taste of the jet-setting St. Tropez lifestyle at a party to...

Fashion Tips: Quick Dress Up

You know those days when all your dressy pieces are at the dry-cleaners and all you have left are your casual clothes? No matter how many clothes a woman has in her closet, there will always be days when she finds she has nothing to wear. Sigh. It was on one of those days a while back that I found myself absently doodling the design for this lace high-collar which I ended up doing in different colors. Adding just a touch of lace is a great way to dress up ordinary pieces like t-shirts and tank tops (as well...
