Inspirational Photo of the Day

We all have our favorite tools of the trade and mine has absolutely nothing to do with speed or efficiency–although this happens to be very efficient and in mint condition. And while my bought-as-new Juki sewing machines are ever reliable, this is the one I love the most. Maybe it’s the fact that this 1950’s sewing machine (which Ito gifted me with when I started designing) is a lovely shade of vintage Chevrolet light-blue, trimmed with chrome and accented with a very pretty art nouveau detail? Or maybe it’s just the fact that it’s called “Princess”? Who knows, but it would inspire me even if it couldn’t sew a stitch, LOL! 🙂 Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this...

Fashion Tips: Boy Meets Girl

All little girls love playing dress up, but even though I adored pretty dresses, one of my favorite things to do since I was around 7 or 8 years old was to dress like a boy from time to time–I mean, who doesn’t love the ease of denim overalls??? In college (the photo above), I would mix dressing up in flirty mini skirts with days when I went to school in brogues, a vest and a tie. Fashion Tips: Instant Ribbon Necklace

After having been sick the past few days, sleeping in most of the day and not having any coffee (!!!), I was thrilled to get out of my pajamas, and thought wearing a pretty accessory (and a bright color) would be the perfect pick-me-upper. Most of us have antique pendants or religious medallions from our parents or grandparents–one of my personal favorites is this gold art nouveau pendant from my lola that was on a long gold chain. For a different look, I replaced the long chain and slipped in my oh-so-versatile black satin ribbon (see the Fashion Tips instant...

Sweet Indulgences

Some things are just too hard to resist! Whether it’s an adorable pair of shoes or pretty lace trimmings, a whimsically illustrated book or delicate fabric, gorgeous cut flowers or sparkling beads, there are things that we don’t need but that definitely add a little deliciousness to our day. Have you ever noticed how it’s often the little details (interesting buttons on a dress, an unusual-colored trim, a hand-painted detail) that can take something from a ‘want’ to making it ultra, uber desirable? Sigh! It’s okay to give in, truly…it’s better to befriend/balance our whims than to ignore them....
